Description
Assuming we draft third, pick Zadina, and he makes the roster out of camp. This could also work if we draft 2nd and get Svechnikov.

Trades are just frameworks. PIT trade clears 2 mil in cap space for the Pens that they need while replacing Hagelin in the lineup. CGY trade gets the Flames a draft pick near the first round which they're rumored to be after, while taking Andersson out of their logjam on defense. Some pieces may need to be added to even out their values, but I figure they're in the ballpark.

Riley Nash might be too pricey and too good a player to sign for a 4th line spot in Buffalo, but he's the first guy I thought of to get us a real bottom 6 center and solidify that position.

I didn't put too much thought into cap figures for the re-signed RFA players but they should be realistic enough, and we shouldn't have too big of a problem staying under the cap ceiling if it rises to around 78M as expected.

In the end, the defense still isn't great but is better, younger, and deeper than last year. The offense is also deeper and more skilled.

So you are keeping "my captain, my captain" who has lost the love of the game. No he really has to go. The team has regressed every year he has been here. The other moves sure why not.

But it took a Bruins fan to show me a couple of defense-men who we may want to target:
Thomas Hickey & Calvin de Haan were +20 and +11 for the NYI when the team collectively was -32. Their current cap hit are $3.3 and $2.2 respectively.

I just do not know who I would trade. Beaulieu was much better his last year in MTL where he was +8 with 28 pts. I know everyone on CF wants to dump Bogosian but he was the Jets top pair with Buff his last 2 years in WIN.

Maybe the the cancer known as ROR has metastasis and the only way to remove it is surgically cut out all who are infected.

That quote was taken out of context, it's a completely reasonable thing for him to say when you put it in perspective. I'd be worried about it if he started to slack off in games and practices, zone but ROR is probably the hardest working guy on this team. He's far from the problem in my opinion.

I do like Hickey and De Haan, and I think they'd work wonders for us. The problem is that the Islanders are relatively weak on defense too, so I don't think trading for either of them would realistically happen without us overpaying.

That's partially why I targeted Calgary and Andersson. They're stacked on RHD for the foreseeable future and don't really have a place for him in their lineup without moving someone else. Combine that with how they don't have a draft pick in the first two rounds this year and I think they could be tempted to move a guy like him for the right return.

    Thanks for the input!

Nolan, Baptiste, Bailey, Eichel, Reinhart, Okposo, Wilson, Rodrigues, and Pominville ALL worked harder than Really Ordinary Rubbish the last 5 games I watched. Mr. "God I am great I win face offs", would approach the offensive zone blue line and instead of carrying the puck into the zone (as every player I mentioned above would have done) he dumps it in and surprise surprise we lose possession. Many CP GM's compare him to Bergeron of Boston, yes the stats do look remarkably similar. but when Patrice sees the path blocked at the blue line, he pulls the puck back and reloads until he can carry the puck into the zone.

BTW, I listened to the entire interview, his comments were not taken out of context, I heard him loud and clear. The captain of the team should never ever give up. He said he lost focus and love of the game. Get out of town you lazy, stats crazy, irresponsible "team captain'.

Ya, I don't see how they could have been taken out of context. Look...I don't blame the guy for feeling that way...anyone who's ever played on a team that gets whooped night in and night out gets demoralized....I think the issue is more....why did he say it to the media? Why did Johnson spout off the way he did? There's issues in that locker room...I'm not sure where they originate from...but I can't have a guy represent the team like that in front of the media.

He is the captain, the captain should be holding people accountable, he did not do his job, he is IMO the primary reason this team with 4 20 goal scores is LAST over all. Winners DO NOT LOSE THEIR LOVE OF THE GAME, only losers do that. Winners do not LOSE FOCUS DURING THE GAME. losers do that. O'Reilly, Kane, Bogosian, Faschings, Deslauriers, Lehner etc. all seem to be losers and are part of DATM legacy to the Sabres along with Okposo, Moulson and Gorges. I am a season ticket holder and I am totally fed up. I think Botterill has done a great job, but there is nothing for him to build on, the foundation traded away for nothing. I would trade everyone except Reinhart, he seems to be a real team player and Eichel looks like he is willing to pay the price and play hard in the defensive zone these past few games
