Description
Assuming the Salary Cap is at $88M, and the Canadiens Draft C Cayden Lindstrom 5th overall. I think they also try to sign a FA to short-term deal. Im thinking Marchessault, Perron, maybe DeBrusk, but only if they can move Armia I believe. Gallagher and Andy are not getting traded for sure. Lmk what you think about the Zegras trade. I do not think the Habs would ever offer Mailloux, Reinbacher, 5th OVR, or Huston for Zegras. I think 2 1st rounders work, and then Barron and Struble are nice young pieces to continue developing in ANA.

  1. Dvorak, Christian
Détails additionnels:
Hawks are still young and very inexperienced, and I think they can see this trade as strong asset management. Ideally this can get done before the start of training camp. Dvorak will offer some nice depth and veteran leadership to a young team. Dvorak's AAV is I suppose high for his production and play, however he could help the young guys in Chicago by playing the tough minutes against top opposition. His AAV can be retained for the rest of the season at the TDL, which can possibly get a couple high picks, maybe even a first depending on his production and what the market is like. Good deal for Habs to bring in some draft capital too, but they really gain something in cap flexibility here.

  1. Armia, Joel
Détails additionnels:
Armia's late season surge should be able to get him some decent trade value. He was not necessarily playing with the best players on the team, but a trip to the minors has seemingly helped him find his game. He has great puck possession skills, and pretty skilled. His cap hit is high for a player who was demoted to the minors several months ago, but he did reach 17 goals, and played his best hockey since the 2021 playoff run. The Blue Jackets who have money to spend, but also lack significant NHLer depth in their forward group, should be a buyer for Armia's services. It would probably cost a 4th rounder, maybe a 3rd, and if they have a bad season again, they can ship him out with a retained salary to a contender for assets. I think the Habs need to alleviate a roster spot more than salary at this point, and with Gallagher and Anderson going no where, Armia might be the guy that gets sent out.

  1. Barron, Justin
  2. Struble, Jayden
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (WPG)
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (CGY)
Détails additionnels:
These 2 teams are perfect trade partners I find. Barron still has plenty of upside, even though he has not shown it in Montreal. He can help on the PP2 or PP1 in Anaheim, and has the ability to round out his game and establish himself on a young blueline in ANA. Struble is probably the more enticing Dman in this deal. He showed some great signs of a guy who can keep possession of the puck but also be physical, yet defend well. This season was a small sample size but people are encouraged that he can be a regular Dman in this league, and compliment a stronger Dman in a pairing. He is only going to get better too. The 2 picks here seem pretty fair. WPG 2024 1st is 18th overall, and CGY could turn into Florida's if the Flames finish pretty close to the bottom I believe. The Ducks could benefit from adding these Dmen, and these picks to potentially acquire other Dmen with them. Their forward group makes a guy like Zegras expendable, and I think he would thrive in Montreal with another young and up and coming team.

I appreciate the write-up, but man the one thing CBJ aren’t lacking is depth.

We need high-end T6 guys, not more B6 dudes.

I think if anything the knights try to retain marchessault because he wont need as much term and the Habs overpay stephenson to hedge against potential injuries down the middle. Even if everyone is miraculously healthy all 82 games, you could shift newhook to the wing.
