Why do so many Toronto guys try to shoehorn Marner and his $10.9 million cap hit into cap-stressed rosters like Minnesota ($14.75 million dead cap next season) or Los Angeles ($20.9 million to re-sign Quinton Byfield and fill both goalie positions and eight other roster slots)? We can't afford Marner at his current cap hit next season or at his new figure if extended, and we're not going to make up the cap difference by subtracting our leading goal scorer from the current roster. Moreover, I cannot believe that any NHL GM is interested in risking his job on Pierre-Luc DuBois. Since Treliving isn't about to trade Marner with $2 million retention for DuBois and draft picks, please go play pretend-Marner-is-going-somewhere with teams like Utah and Chicago and Nashville and Columbus.
