The irony is I do not want Zegras in a Boston uniform. He kind of symbolizes to me why the Ducks continue to struggle despite their young talent. Too focused on how he looks doing something rather than doing the necessary things to win. Maybe that’s not fair, but I’d trade him if I were the Ducks for the best package I could get

The ducks don’t struggle because the team is trying to be cute on the ice. Their Gm is as hard nosed as it gets, and the coach is absolutely a no nonsense type.

They struggle because their young talent is anywhere from 18 to 22 years old. Most of what will be their core are rookies this year (Leo, Minty, Lacombe, Dostal) or are in their sophomore season (McTavish). Zegras is a ‘veteran’ being in his third year. Heck, some of our core haven’t even hit their rookie year yet (Gauthier, Zellweger). We’re probably the youngest team in the NHL after shedding Henrique and Carrick. Not sure how many contenders have an 18 year old #1C and a 21 year old #2C

Z’s entire focus this year has been on rounding out his 200ft game and he made some noticeable progress. Just hasn’t had a decent sample size with the two injuries. There’s nothing strange about a 22 year old kid trying to be flashy and creative. Does he need to hone it and round out his game? Totally. And he’s working on just that
