LA seem to have interest in Chychrun, so I think Ottawa should capitalize on that in the off-season, Arthur Kaliyev has also been tied to the Ottawa Senators, due to Micheal Andlaur being he’s former OHL team owner. I can see ottaw getting a 1st round pick and a 2nd back as well as a mid prospect and roster player, this trade fits that bill.
OTT trade with ARI
Ottawa needs a new look in goal, so I’m proposing a complete change, Ottawa trades Forsberg, Kastelic and a 2nd round pick for Vejmelka, Arizona gets back a decent pick, a goalie around the same caliber but older and a Arizona native in Kastelic, Ottawa gets a Goalie just about to reach his prime and has performed well on a mediocre team, could see this trade being a really good trade for Ottawa if he takes that next step.
OTT trade with WSH
Ottawa is looking to add vets to both the forward lineup and the blue line. Ottawa gets a veteran forward in Nic Dowd for expendable young players looking for a new start, hopefully Brannstrom and Sokolov can flourish in Washington and make this trade good for both teams.
Signings:
Most signings are to add experience to the team, Tanev gives us the top 4 RHD we desperately need. Seeler adds a gritty net presence to the team to help with block shots and keeping players away from our goalies, he could also been seen as a template and holder for Kleven, as they play a very similar game. Kevin Shattenkirk is there to add more experience and depth to that right hand side, this one isn’t as needed, but It would be a nice touch to really solidify the blue line. De Haan is an Ottawa native and adds experience and depth to the blue line aswell.
Clutterbuck is there just to add veteran presence, which this team needs more of. Tarasenko comes back to add scoring depth and again experience to the team.
Nedeljkovic comes in as an FA signing at the same price as Vejmelka giving the team a affordable 1a 1b situation with both goalies entering their prime, with the added depth, structure and experience to the blueline and the entire team as a whole, these two should play well and give ottawa a true chance at playoffs next year.
I’m not too sure what Brannstrom and Sokolov are worth value wise, but I’d personally really rather that the caps acquire a high value asset for Dowd rather than reclamation projects that they hope turn into NHL pieces. That’s not to say I wouldn’t like to have them on the caps, but not at the cost of Dowd.
