Description
Lindholm is an ideal 2nd line center who can easily play the top line for a year or two until Fantilli grows into that role. Much like how Severson was signed to play 1RD with Jiricek developing behind him to eventually take that slot.

Jackets can do the same thing with Lindholm that they did with Severson. Trade for his rights prior to UFA to get the 8th year incentive for him, and then structure it the same way so that the salary is front loaded in the first four years with a NMC. In the second four years his actual salary drops and the NMC becomes a M-NTC, making him much easier to move if necessary.

With the cap going up teams should be more willing to make moves this summer to bring in players that have some AAV, so Jarmo should be able to move Laine, Peeke, Boqvist, and Bean.

This signing is important because like the Provorov and Severson additions, it allows the team to be more competitive now while still allowing the young players to play and develop in a competitive culture.

The year after this, 2025-26, the Jackets will have over $20 million in cap space to re-sign Voronkov, then maybe Danforth, Olivier and/or Provorov. Those decisions will just need to be made with consideration of leaving enough room for major extensions to Fantilli, Jiricek, Johnson and potentially others in 2026-27.

With Mateychuk and others in the NHL now, the prospect pipeline looks like this:
1. Silayev
2. Dumais
3. Brindley
4. Malatesta
5. Svozil
6. Ivanov
7. Ceulemans
8. Del Bel Belluz
9. Pyyhtia
10. Whitelaw
11. Dolzhenkov
12. Richard
13. Pinelli
14. Makarov

And then somewhere in that order:
2024 2nd rounder + three 2024 3rd rounders

Then walking into 2025 with two 1st rounders. Yeesh. Look out for Columbus in 2027 boy.

Jarmo should be spending his final days signing marchenko to an 8 year extension like you have here. If that’s his last thing as a gm here I’ll be pretty happy.

Also adding lindholm even for the money and term would be a good idea. He’s a 1b on a contender and won’t block Fantilli as he can slot behind him fairly easily.

All in all I like this a lot.
I would maybe acquire one veteran winger to support the younger guys and provide some competition but overall this is decent.

I wouldn’t mind giving laine one more year to see if he can make it stick in a second line role. However if we do move on from him, I won’t be too upset.

If Columbus actually drafts Silayev then they're in line to be a contender in 3-4 years.

A dcore of Jirichek - Mateychuk and Silayev would be so good. Add Fantilli as your 1C and this team would have a bright future

I wouldn't be opposed to a veteran winger either, as long as it is the type of player who is fine with being healthy scratched. They could easily go that route instead of re-signing Bemstrom. I know everyone seems to hate him, but I think that is mostly because of the ridiculous hype and expectations put on him that he didn't live up to. He really hasn't been a bad player and is a good depth guy, but I still agree, a veteran who can be a strong leader would only help.

As for Laine, he's shown me enough already. Immensely talented, but just doesn't seem to have the mental makeup to be truly great. Seattle is a team that has been desperately searching for high-end talent to put with Beniers, so I think they'd take this shot on Laine, especially if he can rebound a bit this season and buoy his numbers.
