CBJ
  1. Eberle, Jordan
  2. Gourde, Yanni
Détails additionnels:
Columbus gets a good 2C that allows Sillinger to move to the wing, and Eberle provides one year of veteran leadership to help some younger players.
SEA
  1. Laine, Patrik
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (LAK)
Détails additionnels:
Seattle gets a high-end talent who has the potential to be elite, which is something they lack, plus they clear a little cap room to make another addition. The 3rd balances the value and provides a little continigency since Laine has struggled to reach to his full potential.

That SEA trade reeks of desperation and future regret. For a team that has a high-end C prospect playing in the NHL in his rookie season, and a couple of others with NHL experience, they shouldn't be desperate at all. If JK gets that desperate due to his job being on the line, he should be fired before he could make a trade like that.

Yanni Gourde isn't the kind of center you trade Laine for. Laine has massively underperformed and Gourde immediately makes us better, but he is not the kind of center that puts us over the top. The risk of Laine returning to form for a #2/#3C is not worth it, especially when we are already out of the playoffs this year. Wait it out and see what happens with Laine.

I would add that it's probably time for CBJ to get a new GM since it seems that JK is running out of ideas, but if he's going to continue to be the GM but he's not being allowed to/doesn't want to be patient, then trading Laine + Sillinger for Lindholm (with some kind of guarantee that he will stick around) + ... would probably make more sense than going for two vets one who is rental and the other a year away from FA. If they do this SEA trade it should be Gourde + Eberle + a 1st.

Why would they need or want to move Sillinger to the wing? He's the best defensive center on the team and is filling the role he's in perfectly, even if the goals aren't coming.

Maybe this isn't the move, but I'm not that enamored with Sillinger in the middle. Numbers aside, just watching him play, he always looks reactionary. To my eye, he doesn't have the ability to anticipate or think the game spatially. Maybe that will come, but I'm annoyed that he's been in the NHL for 2+ years when I feel he should have been in Cleveland this whole time. I did think he looked better on the wing early in the season when they tried him there.
