I'm not a fan of the loophole, but the Knights and Bolts have used it, and until the league fixes it, I'm using it if I'm a GM.
It was announced this morning that Rakell is out "Longer term" with an upper body. They haven't said yet if he is going on LTIR, but given his lack of production (he's played really well, but hasn't found the back of the net) if I am Dubas I would look to place him on LTIR, and keep him out until the playoffs start. It would free up $5M which could be a massive help.
IF they would do that, below are some thoughts on who they could try to target. I would go get a 3C and a mid 6 winger. You could then make the 4th line Vinnie/Eller/Acciari.
Garland - i believe the original report earlier this season was Canucks would retain 30%. Not sure what the value on the trade would be, feel like he's underperforming this year given how hot the Canucks are (believe the entire 4th line is outscoring Garland)
Henrique - 50% retained, 2nd a Poulin I feel is something Ducks fans have said in the past would work. I know they're having a nice season, but given he's older and a UFA I can't imagine they would hold on to him (Unless they're looking like a playoff team around the deadline)
The rest are other UFAs i'm just throwing out. Not sure if teams would sell or what their value would be.
