Quoting: Hammerwise
Maybe, but I would have thought alot more moves were done last year too.
I think the big problem is most of your subtractions have little to negative value. Its a collection of misfit toys with Armia, DeSmith, Monahan, etc.... and if Harris, Kovacevic, Lindstrom aren;t good this year, thats a good chunk of why you're rebuilding, then this is really a collective of negative goods.
Ylonen on 1st line, Barron not making the starting 7 dmen, Gallagher on 2nd line, Leivo and Brassard getting minutes over youngsters, etc.... just not sure what you're building here, other than a tank.
And theres no reason to drop young guys if the value isn;t there. And if you're full out rebuilding, why keep guys like Savard, or sign Bear?
I'm mostly looking for picks. Also, note that I'm saying that these are players I would target to move out, not saying they'll all go. But if you want a full clean-up, it's the way to go.
As far as Brassard, Leivo and Bear go, first two are to let our younger guys develop as they should for another seaosn in the AHL; you could potentially have some that would be ready to move up in 24-25. Also, yeah it's a move to help tank, but Brassard is a solid team player in helping young guys cope with the NHL. His wife is from MTL, he's from Gatineau and was a Habs fan growing up which would give him the opportunity to wear the jersey on his last run at it. I'm sure he could also fit in with the development crew the year after.
Leivo is only to help on the maturity side of thing within the team. He'd be a replacement for someone who left in order to balance out the team.
Bear is a possible future asset. At 26, he could be a good 5th to 7th DMan if his injury doesn't prevent him from playing. Monahan is a prime example, Dach is the same.. Take the chance to sign an experienced player in mid-development in order to let your prospects time to get their NHL legs.
