Description
This is what I would do to trade the most contracts and get something in return. I would aim for picks, picks, picks.

I understand the challenges of moving some of these contracts, but I think anyone could be a potential target for a team that needs depth or assistance.

I would sign Brassard for one year to help out (if he is able to play after his injury and later in the season).

I would do the same for Leivo. As for Bear, I would wait a bit, but if his injury allows him to come back by December, then I would strongly consider signing him to a one-year contract like we did with Monahan to evaluate his ability to play again. I would do this before Vancouver tries to get him back. He is 26, so if his injury does not affect his performance, he is still young for a defenseman, and having a +6 with Vancouver last year, he could be a good signing in the long run.

I would also sign Tendeck to a two-year AHL contract. I have a feeling we will lose Primeau since he has to go through waivers, and I do not think DeSmith will stay here for long based on what Hugues said. Unless Allen is not 100%, then keep DeSmith as long as possible until Allen is ready, but I still do not see him finishing the season in Montreal. I would keep Gallagher since he is a warrior for the team, and his contract would be very hard to trade without a 50% retention, which would be bad for the Habs in the long term.

These are all players I could see go during the season or mostly at TDL for anything from a 1st to a 7th pick and some prospects or current year contracts in order to help get picks and more picks.

Maybe, but I would have thought alot more moves were done last year too.

I think the big problem is most of your subtractions have little to negative value. Its a collection of misfit toys with Armia, DeSmith, Monahan, etc.... and if Harris, Kovacevic, Lindstrom aren;t good this year, thats a good chunk of why you're rebuilding, then this is really a collective of negative goods.

Ylonen on 1st line, Barron not making the starting 7 dmen, Gallagher on 2nd line, Leivo and Brassard getting minutes over youngsters, etc.... just not sure what you're building here, other than a tank.

And theres no reason to drop young guys if the value isn;t there. And if you're full out rebuilding, why keep guys like Savard, or sign Bear?

I'm mostly looking for picks. Also, note that I'm saying that these are players I would target to move out, not saying they'll all go. But if you want a full clean-up, it's the way to go.

As far as Brassard, Leivo and Bear go, first two are to let our younger guys develop as they should for another seaosn in the AHL; you could potentially have some that would be ready to move up in 24-25. Also, yeah it's a move to help tank, but Brassard is a solid team player in helping young guys cope with the NHL. His wife is from MTL, he's from Gatineau and was a Habs fan growing up which would give him the opportunity to wear the jersey on his last run at it. I'm sure he could also fit in with the development crew the year after.

Leivo is only to help on the maturity side of thing within the team. He'd be a replacement for someone who left in order to balance out the team.

Bear is a possible future asset. At 26, he could be a good 5th to 7th DMan if his injury doesn't prevent him from playing. Monahan is a prime example, Dach is the same.. Take the chance to sign an experienced player in mid-development in order to let your prospects time to get their NHL legs.

Lot of those those players aren't worth their contracts (the reason you want to get rid of them) so teams just don't want those players.

The only one this comment pertains to is Armia, the rest we're fine with. Just looking to make room for youngsters would be the only reason to move anyone else.

not really a major rebuild just cleaning up the pieces that arent part of the future. really every team not making playoffs should be doing this
problem for MON is most have more than 1 year left, if you dont want the player why do you think another team will. Rentals @ TDL are easy to move the others good luck. and I doubt you get the stellar picks you think for this bunch
