Description
If the NHL really wanted to make the cap equal, it's a simple fix. A players cap hit is after taxes. The league obviously would have to adjust the overall cap amount, but the playing field would be even. Teams in Canada would now not be handcuffed and Florida and other states with lower taxes wouldn't have a big advantage.

I know it would be a down grade on defense. But the leafs need to have a full roster imo. Gio can't play everyday and needs to rotate to hopefully be solid in the playoffs.

The differing state and provincial tax systems have been a bit of a hangup of mine in terms of the salary cap as well.

Going with "net income" as the cap is an intriguing idea...... but may also have its flaws. I mean the cap rules are complicated enough lol.

The while tax rate issue has been something grappled with in the past.... no easy solution unless it runs with an "average tax rate" across the leagues 32 teams - and even that gets resistance from the Board of Governers.

So ,are you going to deduct players endorsements from Canadian teams? Because Canadian teams use that to entice players too. So unless your going to include endorsements in the cap then this is a f***ING moronic idea and doesn't even the playing field it grotesquely favors Canadian teams.

The "tax" thing is drastically overblown and endorsement incentives are never thought of by Canadian teams fans when they cry about taxes. So,unless you figure a way to add cap for teams players that don't have those drastic pay potential this is just crying.

There is almost 14% difference between Toronto and Nashville in tax rate. so that's over $11M net income on the current cap. not overblown at all.

But The fact that the Canadian teams subsidize the NHL with revenue sharing should allow them some perks

The issue with endorsement is the team has no control over what the players sign. I think just opening up a luxury tax system would be best

But when you use those endorsements as part of the pitch to play there as Toronto tried to do with Stamkos (Bringing in the CEO of Canadian Tire to sell the player on money he can make playing for them negates the "tax difference".) So no American team does it's only the 7 Canadian teams that support the revenue sharing cough (bullsg**) cough
