I would accept that offer as the Anaheim GM without the fourth.

Imagine ending up giving up Nick Paul, a 1st and a 4th for Max Jones (not good at all) and a 4th Help

I also wouldn't trade Brannstrom for a 2nd. Guy has a 24 pts per 82 games pace since 2020-21 (21 y/o) and was Top-30 in defensive metrics last season. If he starts putting a bit more points on the board (which could happen based on xGF), his value would become quite high

Ducks should take Joseph even if it was just for future considerations. They need to improve defensively and particularly on the PK. Joseph has elite PK metrics. He's not even overpaid that much so if their budget allows it, take him, he's not bad at all and is a plus skater

36 pts pace in 2021-22 and 24 pts pace in 2022-23

Joseph is just way too redundant with Brock McGinn who they brought in at the trade deadline last season to fill the role you are talking about putting Joseph into. It's really not a matter of salary or cap hit with the guy. It's a matter of roster spot and ice time. The Ducks will go into camp with the bottom six guys they already have because that leaves some room for a kid to make the team, whether that's Bo Groulx or Pavol Regenda or someone else (Carlsson??).

Depending on how camp and pre-season games go maybe they consider making a move for a more experienced guy. I can also see them giving a PTO to Derek Grant to have him in camp as a safety net. I really doubt Grant will get a contract from any other team.

Yeah good point about McGinn, however he didn't put great PK results lately. I think it depends what the Ducks want to do/ Are they taking a slow approach and improve with development or they're trying to fill holes with a bit more quality? Like you said, they will want to have opportunities for young players to make their mark. And with McGinn already added, it's true that it makes it harder for them to add Joseph.

Not sure what avenue the Sens will take but it will have to be fixed by training camp. I hope they find a way to keep Joseph. He's good defensively and particularly on the PK, his speed is a real asset and he's only a year away from being traded for Nick Paul... and had 30 ES + PK points in 69 games in 2021-22, that's quite valuable

Joseph would have a lot more PK appeal for the Ducks if he took face offs. That's definitely an area of concern. But he's a winger so that's not helping to make him attractive to the Ducks unfortunately.

Patience vs fill holes? Well, I certainly hope it's a bit of both. Take patience with the forward group since it's a little more advanced in the rebuild. Also the fact the holes are at the top of the line up and acquiring legit top-6 forwards is an expensive and risky proposition (ie DeBrincat).

But fill holes on defense with short term options to bridge things to the prospects just out of the CHL. They really need another guy on both the right side and the left side to make me happy and these guys don't have to be world beaters. They just need to be serviceable NHL level players. Ceci, Forbort, etc. Lots of similar names get thrown around on this site all the time.
