Description
Sharks fan trying to think about an EK65 trade from Carolina's perspective. Apologies in advance if I'm not as familiar with your team.

One of the issues with a Karlsson trade I see mentioned the most is that he and Burns didn't fit well together on the Sharks. Burns has a 3-team no trade list and I think Carolina would like to hang on to Pesce because he's obviously a better long term investment.

My assumption here is that if Carolina retains half on his contract, that almost any team likely to be on Burns' list would be willing to make a trade for him. Burns at a 2.6m cap hit would be a fairly safe investment. My guess is Vegas, Colorado and Dallas are on the list, with Dallas being most likely. There's a strong chance Carolina can trade him there without him needing to waive.

Not 100% sure about the value in the Karlsson for Morrow trade, but I think Morrow is the best target for the Sharks.

Another placeholder trade for cap reasons. I don't think Teuvo waives for SJ so likely to another team.

First of all, Burns wouldn’t be moved. If anything, Skjei would be the one to get moved. Carolina also has something that the Sharks don’t: a dcore that can insulate both Burns and EK (Slavin, Pesce, and now Orlov, Pesce can play LD if need be). It’s both a smart and very dumb move, since both need top PP time to be the best version of themselves, and the Canes don’t exactly have the best PP track record.

Canes aren’t moving Morrow. He is the future after Burns, and if the Canes end up with EK, after EK as well.

That's fair, and I'm not entirely convinced that Burns and Karlsson can't work on the same team. While I think how bad it was in SJ to have both is mostly overblown, its still something brought up whenever Carolina acquiring EK65 is discussed. So if they want to avoid the issues SJ had or if they just want to only keep 2 of Pesce, Burns and EK65 then I think the 38yo is the likely the odd man out. I know he's a mutant freak of nature, but age catches up with everyone and Carolina might not want to bet that Burns will continue to stay as productive as he is.
