Description
-- Main goal is to have a slight youth movement, build through FA and keep our picks. A trade or two where we see players for players is fine to me however, I don't want to see the pens mortgage the future for one last run before the season even starts. If we are in a good spot come the deadline and we have a shot then sure but right now I wouldn't do it.

-- We take the L on Granlund and buy him out instead of spending assets to dump him. He only costs us 900k this season and 1.9 the following 3 which should not be an issue with the cap rising.

-- Jarry comes back on a short term prove it deal as he looks to put up a better showing than his 2022-23 campaign in order to secure his final chance at a big payday at age 30. I believe Jarry is the best available option in net as he's still young and I don't think it would be wise to trade for Gibson or Helly.

-- Ryan Graves is brought in to bring size and a defensive presence to the defense. I believe he could work really well with Letang which would leave Petterson to play with Petry. This also means one of POJ or Ty Smith would lose a spot which isn't ideal, but I believe Graves is an upgrade over both.

-- Monahan is a low risk, high reward type signing that would make sense for the pens as I don't really see them going for one of the big time centers in FA. If Monahan can stay healthy, he would be a great Two way 3C who can also move up and down the lineup if needed. Worse case, He's on a very movable contract that can be moved for an improvement near the deadline.

Nylander and Puustinen get great chances to produce and start the youth wave.
Ty Smith gets a full time shot as he showed he can play in Sully's system last season.
Friedman finally gets a full time spot on the NHL roster as he adds much needed grit.

Norlinder is a young Dmen who seems to have fallen out of favor in MTL and could be looking for a new home. Pens take a flier on him as he has tools that can turn him into a 2nd or 3rd pair OFD however he hasn't put it all together yet. Norlinder would start out in WBS and kinda takes the Ty Smith route of last season.

I have seen a lot of Habs fans wanting to move up and I do believe it makes sense for MTL to do so as they have a pretty good prospect pool and are now at the point of the rebuild where they need more quality over quantity when it comes to draft picks.
MTL
  1. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (PIT)
Détails additionnels:
#14 OA

In my opinion the Pens should trade back in the draft and recoup draft picks that they have lost recently. With how our prospect is, I believe gaining more draft capital in a deep draft is crucial and would help us boost the farm system a bit and hey, Maybe we get a hit on a day 2-3 selection.
2.
PIT
  1. Miller, J.T.
Détails additionnels:
J.T Miller is a great fit for the pens although his contract may be iffy to some, the pens can afford to eat to finals years of his contract as we will be in rebuild mode anyways

Miller produced at pretty much the same rate as Guentzel last season, is only 1 year older however, Miller is bigger and more physical than Guentzel. Miller can also play anywhere which is a big plus when the injury bug hits the pens like it always does.
VAN
  1. DeSmith, Casey
  2. Guentzel, Jake
Détails additionnels:
Guentzel re-ups with Vancouver or else this trade would not happen.

Other spots I had for Guentzel simply didn't work cap wise so he goes to Vancouver.

Ok now listen this won't be a popular trade but it's a trade that I believe needs to happen because this team needs a shake up and a wake up call.

Guentzel is a great goal scorer and fits so well with Sid, However he tends to get pushed around alot when we face bigger teams. I love Guentzel but the team needs a change.

Desmith is also involved in the deal as the pens look to shake up the goaltending and Vancouver looks for a reliable backup behind Demko.
3.
PIT
  1. Vladar, Daniel
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (CGY)
Détails additionnels:
With Dustin Wolf primed to become the back up in CGY, the Flames move on from Vladar in order to boost their defense.

Vladar is seen as a future starter in the league kinda like Alex Georgieve was seen last offseason. The Pens bank on Vladar's potential to emerge as a true 1B behind Jarry and offer them more starter potential over Desmith.
CGY
  1. Joseph, Pierre-Olivier
Détails additionnels:
With the Flames looking to potentially re-tool this offseason, the look to add a young OFD who is now the odd man out in Pittsburgh after the addition of Ryan Graves.
4.
PIT
  1. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
Who ever wants a #5-6 DFD
ANA
  1. Rutta, Jan
Détails additionnels:
Was never needed in the 1st place, was a luxury that we could not afford and id honestly simply rather see Friedman take his spot.
5.
PIT
  1. Foligno, Marcus
Détails additionnels:
With Mini needing to clear up cap space, the pens take advantage to get a Gritty 4th liner
MIN
  1. O'Connor, Drew
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2024 (PIT)
Détails additionnels:
DOC does have potential to be a solid bottom 6 option however, the pens need more grit and DOC even at his size doesn't really provide that.

I'm not sure VAN would take that. Value wise, it's wonderful for the Canucks but I could see Alvin seeing to big of a hole in centre too do it. Maybe if they flipped him for a young C?

If im VAN we have to take that. The 2nd Line C could be filled within FA or by Drafting. Or flipping one of our wingers along with a pick for a center

Absolutely not on Miller. Zucker had more points at 5v5 than JTM did this season. Miller was essentially a power play specialist this past season, and his contract and age are much less than ideal.

I hate to lose that 2nd round pick but it's worth it IMO for Montreal. Would you also consider getting a prospect worth a 2nd instead?
