I really can't think of a reason for Buffalo to make that trade. Despite playing more minutes I don't think Myers is actually any better than Lyubushkin, and costs more than twice as much.

Calgary needs to shed cap space, not take on more.

I think it helps slot guys in more appropriate positions.

With only one year remaining on Myers contract the cap hit isn't a big deal. It provides some more reliable depth in the event of an injury as he can play heavy minutes (he's not great at it but has never averaged less than 21mins a game in a season). He can ease some of the defensive ice time that goes to jokiharju right now and in the event of an injury they don't have to feed Clague or lybushkin heavy minutes as guys that can't really handle it.

I agree but I think they will have interest in Boeser (bear is a decent bottom pair guy). I also think they might try to get ahead of moving Hanifin with just one year remaining before UFA status. They would have to move some money out elsewhere though or have the Canucks retain a bit on boeser.
