Description
Picks 8 and 13 assumed. Draft Reinbacher and Oliver Moore.

Brossoit just happened to be the guy I picked for backup goalie. Realistically it could be any vet who’s been a backup or bouncing up and down. Wanted a cheap one as insurance if Hofer isn’t ready or we aren’t in a position to put a goalie in a good position to continue development.

Interested to see the response to the trade. In a sense I know the Habs have a bunch of LD rostered. However, I don’t think they have a d at the NHL level that can help boost their powerplay. Don’t get me wrong Krugs contract is not great, but neither is Dvoraks. Idea of pick 13 for 24 and 27 seems to in my mind be a benefit for both teams. Assuming ASP and Reimbacher are both gone by 13 with how deep this draft is it may make more sense to take two stabs on like Bonk, Strback versus picking BPA there. This probably isn’t as much of a pull the trigger move for the Blues if Reinbacher doesn’t get to them at 8. (I know the consensus that a lot of these D men probably are being overvalued due to the lack of defense in this draft in general).

Can't imagine Montreal would want to get older, more expensive and smaller while trading the higher pick or that Krug would waive his NTC to go to Montreal.

While I don’t disagree, I think the main point of Krug would be to have someone to run the PP to help push up the point totals of the younger core.

The puck portion is interesting there’s a pretty large drop off after around 11 or 12 in this draft depending on where or who reaches a bit for some d men. Went back and forth whether it would be better for the Blues to fill positional need later in the draft on defense versus going the Reinbacher route myself.

I'm not so sure Montreal cares that much about pumping up the production of young players. But even they did, there are much easier ways to get a PP QB than committing 6 mil a year to an undersized D-man in his 30s for 4 years. Nashville would probably be willing to move Barrie for much less (even if I'm not a fan), Gostisbehere is a UFA, as are Klingberg, Shattenkirk, etc. All would cost less in salary, term and not cost trade assets. Even if Dvorak's contract isn't great, its cheaper and shorter. He also plays a more in-demand position and is younger.

As for the pick, Montreal has picked a lot in the last few drafts, they're better off with a higher quality pick to get someone higher on their draft board.
