If Hornqvist can be dumped - read please

Reinhart does need to be traded to make this work for next season, so trading him now without there being retention on Meier might make the most sense so that they have the cap for this season. For next season, Gudas needs to be replaced by a 1.5m defender, and all other expiring contracts need to stay the same, if the cap only goes up 4m, with Knight being 4.5m if Meier is 7.5m.

Edit: They have 5,333,333 of dead cap off the books next year, so they could trade Reinhart for someone with term that takes some of that. Perhaps Chychrun but what would it cost on top with Reinhart doing poorly?

That's unfortunate. Essentially there's probably no deal to be done.

Perhaps Reinhart+prospect+ 2024 3rd for Meier could work but doubt it with Reinhart's performance. Hornqvist would still need to get dumped to ARZ (or another team with cap like Buffalo) who would flip him now to a contender at 50% if anyone is interested (he probably would want that if he's going to waive). The cost will be expensive though to do that, but if the overall cost makes sense then so be it, perhaps they can work in Duclair and Chychrun too.

If they use Buffalo as the intermediary, it would probably cost less than ARZ, ANA, or CHI since they all have multiple guys that they will want to flip at the deadline.

Change the 3rd to a 1st and still don’t think that gets you Meier.

Zona wants two 1sts and a high end prospect for Chychrun. That is of zero interest to them

Yeah, I'm not sure what ARZ wants some places say it's a high end prospect + a 1st or two 1st + some while others say they want 3 1sts in value (top prospect+two 2nds)

As for the Meier trade I figured that Florida might have some very good prospects but guess not. My assumption was that the cost of Meier + dumping Hornqvist would be around a 1stx3 + 2nd + 3rd, but the idea was to get both done at a cheaper cost (replace the 1st for Hornqvits+2nd with Duclair). The assumption is that they had a top prospect that would be equivalent of 2 late 1sts.
