I agree that CGY shouldn't be trading Hanifin at all.

@Palhal, this is what the team could look like if that trade were to happen. Of course, they would have to move one of Kerfoot or Engvall, and then play Simmonds or someone as cheap. Kerfoot to CGY would probably make sense for them.

For those who don't read titles, overall descriptions, or trade descriptions, I know that CGY isn't going to trade Hanifin. I made this ACGM based off another for discussion purposes.

But LHD is not a position of need. You proved it by forcing Reilly to the right side where he doesn't play well.
Not saying Hanifan should be traded for futures by "going for it" Flames, but roster construction should be a key in any trade. And the Leafs have plenty of LHD even without Muzzin.

I agree LHD isn't a need, but from here they do have options, of course someone is going to end up on the offside sooner or later, but I could have just put Rielly, Hanifin, and Giordano on the left side.

He's definitely not an ideal fit though, since it would lead to complications.

Personally, I would like to see the Leafs blueline have Gio-Brodie together, Sandin and Liljegren, and a RHD partner for Rielly.

[Brodie plays the right side, and has had for years, Liljgren is a RHD. But you seem to have conveniently left Holl off the top 6. He does play 20 minutes a night, at RHD. and lots of PK time.
The Leafs seem to have found Benn who can play both sides, but ideally left.
Think there is Mete and Kral on the left side in a pinch. But Leafs can't ignore the fact that maybe Muzzin and cap will return, if not this year next season.
Like all teams gotta think teams are going to analyze in January and their needs for playoff run, or if sellers who they can sell. There should be some short term help available.
What are the Leafs 7th in GAA....is there a really need for Dman right now?

Their defence has been good, so 7th in GAA sounds about right, and it's been good for years now. They really don't need a d-man now. The only problem is that the team overall is still gifting teams with prime scoring opportunities often. It's not necessarily, a d-core problem specifically though.

Benn and Mete both can play the left and right side, I think they used to alternate when they were a pairing in Montreal way back, but you're right they do lack RHD. I'm with you on that, all their closest to NHL-ready, AHL D are LD. I have Holl in the top 4, but perhaps you meant in my statement, I just didn't mention him because I'm not expecting him to be back. They might offer him a 2 or 3-year extension but I think he decides to go elsewhere for more term/money.

Any moves to add a defender or even forwards will likely be closer to deadline, after Muzzin gets re-evaluated in February, so that they know whether to hope for Muzzin's return during the playoffs/the following season or not.
