Yzerman is trying to improve team defense. Klingberg doesn't help that. Spending 4.4 mil on a 3rd pair D doesn't make sense.

I understand where you’re coming from and I definitely considered it when making this, but I ended up disagreeing… Mainly because of the two stud defenseman on rookie deals allows you the luxury to overpay a 3rd pair D at the moment…. And I actually think on a true contender Hronek might be on that third pair… which would mean a really strong D core…
Hronek might honestly be a little overpaid and better suited in a lesser role resigned to a lesser AAV.
