Romanov is a young up and coming top 4 d man who really took a step forward and improved when MSL took over, playing the most minutes out of any Hab. Allen is one of the better backups in the league and will be important to the Habs next year when price needs his workload managed. He will be an integral part in keeping Primeau in the ahl so he can have some consistency and build off this insane playoff he’s having. We’re not giving both up for a change of scenery player who has shown nothing in the nhl so far.

My thought was that they are not in a very good cap situation currently. The MTL media and fan base are not going to be happy to hear "rebuild" so they will need to clear some space for a on the fly rebuild/retool.

This may be way off base, but was the basic concept behind this trade.

media are not happy with the rebuild because here the media talk about the habs 24/7 and only remember the habs in the 70 who was winning every like every year.

The majority of the habs wanted a rebuild since 2018
