Canes pass. Gardiner's deal isn't an issue. Necas will be moved for a roster upgrade. To make moving Necas worth while, someone like Jeannot would need to be coming back except like better than Jeannot. Think someone like DeBrincat of Nylander. There's not realyl that kind of guy on Nashville. Forsberg being a free agent isn't going to be moved before or after signing, and if he is, it won't include Necas.

I would be disappointed if my team traded DeBrincat, Nylander, or Forsberg for Necas. Sure there would be other parts, but that’s not a main piece that gets any of those players.

I have the person you quoted on ignore, so I didn't see their comment. If they are still watching this thread, I would point out to them that Gardiner being medically cleared to play again is a considerable cap issue for CAR, and Granlund is indeed a roster upgrade over Necas (Jeannot would be too, but obviously not available in a trade).

If Hynes can get more out of Necas, I think the deal could be a long-term win for NSH. I thought the most contentious thing here was dumping some meh assets on ARZ.

I think it's an interesting idea. I wouldn't mind adding Necas, but I just wonder about him playing C-- I'm not convinced he will excel at that position. If Duchene goes back to C (doubt it), Forsberg - Duchene - Necas could have some potential. Definitely feels like a competitive retool move or whatever the buzzword Poile and co. like to use is.

I'd also probably lean towards keeping Gardiner, if he can still play. He could be useful in MIL, and I don't see him getting claimed. And when needed, can be brought up to play some games here and there. Who knows, maybe he impresses and splits time with Lauzon-- probably unlikely, but NSH has the cap space to at least consider it.

I've heard Necas really prefers playing center. I thought a fresh start with a team willing to give him that opportunity might give him more confidence, and help unlock more of his potential. If it doesn't work, he could shift over to wing. Like you say Duchene moving back to center could be an option. Bumping Glass and Sissons up a line too, making room for Novak to get back into the lineup.

I never thought about holding onto Gardiner, but like you say the cap space is definitely there if NSH wants to consider it.
