The top 9 forward group would be really nicely rounded out with Giroux. Looks like there will be a decent amount of pressure on Sanderson to perform well quickly in that top 4 D if this is to be a playoff pushing club though.

As a fan of a non-Canadian team that has zero stock in this, I really want to get back to the days of Ottawa vs. Toronto in the playoffs, but I don't know if the Sens are quite there yet. They pretty much need a 20ish point improvement just to become a wildcard team. Pretty much have to have a 100% healthy team all year, pray that the goaltending holds up (I'm not buying Forsberg/Murray as the answer...Forsberg has had a solid year for sure though, and Soggard could be reallllllly good in a bit), and hope that the d-core that, at this moment, looks like it'll need to rely heavily on Hamonic, plays above their heads.

Really, really good foundation, and could make some noise soon, but IMO everything would have to go right to get a wildcard spot.

Well said but this year everything has gone wrong with the team being hammered by covid and the league not postponing games. Every good player has missed many games (Chabot, Batherson, Pinto, Brown, Norris, etc.) with injuries and the team has made some great additions who look really good with Joseph, Hamonic and obviously Sanderson. If we had these players and better injury luck I think we would be in the hunt and Giroux should put us over we just need to not flop right as the season starts.

I agree with you, and being Leaf and Atlantic "fan", you could say the Sens, Wings and Sabres could be very good, very soon. All three probably aren't playoff teams till 24/25 but after that might be as good any teams in the league if they draft and develop their players wisely. Plus they are one of few teams that might have cap space to further help solidify their club

I think you lean a lot on that top pair, but I also think there's enough money leftover to pull out a decent veteran from UFA and mix and match the bottom two pairs - keep the young guys with a veteran and get 17-19 minutes a night out of each pair.

Giroux is a fun addition here, and from what other Sens fans have told me on here, you might need a different 1B than Murray next year - but I think if you get a solid guy to share starts (something like 45/35/give a couple to Sogard) you've got a much more solid team. The East is 8 playoff teams plus the Islanders(yes I'm biased, but they've played at a 97 point pace since their first COVID postponement, so shush), so you have to hope some of them fall back down from age/wearing down/injury/whatever - TBL/TOR/FLA/CAR/NYR are safe, so someone from the NYI/Boston/Washington/Pittsburgh quartet needs to stumble. I think this team pushes one of those 4 reallllly hard for that last playoff spot.
