VGK is going to play the LTIR game this year, and not ship away a talent like Smith. It’s the smart thing to do Pacciorety will be on LTIR till the playoffs and they will do what ever minor moves they have to to stay cap compliant.

I'm a big Hertl fan, but you call him young at 28, the same age as Strome, and Strome has averaged 0.75pts/game as a Ranger, which is a legit 2C. Hertl would be an upgrade but will also cost more than Strome. I would make the trade but not for as many pieces and it would have to come with an extension that is reasonable.

They absolutely MUST extend Hertl for this deal to make any sense and he would slot in right behind Zibs the next 4-5 years. Hertl just brings more than Strome in areas the Rangers would need to win playoff games like faceoffs and defense. Its an expensive price to pay for sure but I think it is worth it for the upgrade...

That could work as well if the money fits. Vegas probably does that as well to clear two cap hits at once to get an A prospect in Kravtsov
