2022 Draft:
#60. (RD) Kasper Kulonummi (Jokerit, U20 SM-sarja)
#72 (via SEA). (LC) Jiří Kulich (Karlovy Vary, Czech)

Watch for the Oilers to stock up on another goalie and perhaps another late-round LHD with their 5th rounders, possibly out of the USHL or a European/Russian stream that would give them 3-4 years to reach the AHL and enough time for the Oilers to see what they have out of their current LHD pool. The 6th and 7th rounders are apt for over-aged forwards that could play in Bakersfield the following October. I think the Oilers may be at the vanguard of some CHL and NCAA signings this offseason.

Barrie is ultimately going to be a cap casualty despite any improvements or gaudy production he posts in the back three quarters of the season. He's too expensive of a luxury to have on the bottom pair while being a defensive black hole. Seattle lacking a point man for their power play makes for a neat fit and I'd be satisfied with this return as an Oilers fan (piece for now and for later).

I think Kailer is ultimately going to price himself off of the Oilers' roster and that he and Puljujarvi will both be targets for an offer sheet this upcoming season. I wanted a stable RHD in return to fill the roster void the Barrie trade creates and I think Myers will pair well with either Broberg or Samorukov on that second pair in a matter of a season or two. I think this trade does require Yamamoto to produce a bit more than he has been, but I think this trade can ultimately work its way through with other assets on either side if needed.

Smith's current injury situation has me very, very concerned for next year's tandem. I still like Varlamov as a guy to tandem with Skinner next year despite Trotz' best attempt at driving the Isles straight to the bottom of the Metropolitan. A third team will be required to eat half his hit, which team this is doesn't matter. I chose Detroit because I had already completed trades with Arizona and Buffalo. The return on Smith won't be very high given his age and health concerns, but what's important for the Oilers in this deal is the cap space. Callahan and Carcone are likely bound to be AHL pieces in the long run. The sixth a crapshoot.

Given the strength of today's Oilers and how much better these moves make them, I suspect that accruing cap space is going to be a must for the 2023 deadline. This roster is at the cusp of being a contender and having the room to fit in a rental and/or cover bonuses owed will be paramount, thus the forced-into-retirement Klefbom is sent to a team with a low tax rate for the final year of his contract while picking up some work for the Oilers as an overseas scout (perhaps?). Went with Tampa as Brisebois always has some sort of LTIR games to play, but it could be any of Arizona, Dallas, Florida, or Seattle.

Interesting team, well done. The deals mostly look reasonable though I'm not sure Smith to Arizona is realistic. I doubt Smith wants to move and Kenny isn't going to ship him off just before retirement. This would be a great outcome for the Oilers. It takes two to tango and there are probably two+ years worth of deals here. We would be lucky to get half of this next offseason.

The only reason I think Smith to Arizona could likely happen is because of his personal ties to the organization. End of the day he doesn't have a NMC. Winning a cup should be the only priority and losing Skinner to waivers just to give Schmitty "the send off he deserves" would be monumentally stupid.

I think the Islanders could get a little more, don't think a late 2023 2nd would get it done. Add another 2nd/3rd or a prospect like Beryozkin/Siikanen.

No thanks from NSH. I'm curious what Yamamoto has done, that you think someone might offer sheet him. What team do you think would do it, and how much would they offer him?

I know it is not one of the major trades you have listed, but how do you value that exchange with the Sabres.
Turris has a goal and 2 assists and Koekkoek has one assist, while Cody Eakin has 3 goals, 4 assists while winning nearly 58% of his face offs and he can PK, yet you have Buffalo adding fifth?
Neither of the two Edmonton players have any real value playing less than 10 min/gm when they are dressed.
Buffalo has absolutely no need for either Turris or Koekkoek yet we need to take them and add a pick.
How in the world is this " ...well done." Maybe from an Edmonton POV, but as you can see from the comments above not to the other teams.

    EDIT:
I just read your previous post, littlejerryseinfeld does not know much about the value of players.
He actually thinks Thompson is not very good, so that will give you an idea of his judgement.
