MY BOOK

Been sitting on this for about a week and thought I would post it finally. Wishing for OEL and Trouba as some has posted. Just not sure how. Maybe my next trade scenario.

Left the Cap at $73 million until it is officially raised. We need Cap space next year to cover approximately $5.2 MIL in rookie bonuses and this roster could need an additional $5.4 MIL in bonuses. Those CAN'T come from the LITR so we need to have around $10.6 MIL in space June 2018. If the Cap does increase $3 MIL then I have about $12.3 MIL in space which could leave wiggle room to add a player at the TDL for 2018 playoffs.

Although I see some here signing older UFAs including past Leaf players like McClement I feel that we should be looking to address some needs while getting the Leafs YOUNGER and BIGGER. This should be done by moving out some good veterans. When the Leafs are ready to contend we can sign some top UFAs to fill remaining holes.

I feel that the trades are close in value so that they could be easily tweaked by the Leafs offering a bit more if that is needed to make them realistic. The Leafs have the depth with their prospects to do that without harming the future.

The top 3 lines have scoring, speed and playmaking ability. Each line also has a gritty retriever. This season Jenner, Ritchie, Uncle Leo and Martin are pro-rated for an astounding 1044 hits between only the 4 of them.

In my plan: Jenner is 4 years younger than JVR, Ritchie is 3 years younger than Hyman, Manson is 5 years younger than Polak, Kapanen is 10 years younger than Bozak and for the 6th dman some rugged LH dman can be signed who is bigger and younger than 5'10" 1985 born Hunwick.

Re-signings:
Brown might be a 15 goal scorer, maybe a 10, maybe a 20. This bridge contract pays him $2.5, $2.75 and then $3 MIL in the final year to give him time to show if he is a $2 MIL player or a $4+ MIL player

Hyman is a great grinder and skater but has the offensive skill of a lower 6 player as dramatically demonstrated by only scoring 9 goals all year while playing with one of the world's top centers. He is what he is and I like him to stay on the team for many years. Let him show in the next 3 years that he is more than what he has shown so far and he can cash in.

Zaitsev is playing as well as Gardiner and Rielly and deserves to be paid like them.

McElhinney is a solid backup that can come in and play great after sitting MANY games. Cheap and skilled and the coaching and Leaf players are familiar with him.

I didn't re-sign 33 year old Boyle because although he is better than 22 year old Gauthier in almost every way, I am looking for Gauthier to get a chance to play regularly and learn.

  1. Jenner, Boone
Détails additionnels:
-
Jenner has had a bit of an off year. He is NOT as skilled offensively as JVR but plays a more complete game.
CBJ
  1. Bozak, Tyler
  2. Johnsson, Andreas
Détails additionnels:
-
Bozak is the faceoff specialist that Columbus desperately needs.
Johnsson is the Expansion Draft exempt addition to increase the value on the Leafs side of the trade.

TOR
    -
Vegas takes Fehr in the Expansion Draft leaving some of the Leafs youth alone.

Marincin gets traded for a conditional 7th pick (Condition is met if Vegas makes the playoffs)

    TOR
    1. Manson, Josh
    2. Ritchie, Nick
    3. Stoner, Clayton
    Détails additionnels:
    -
Manson is a rugged 2nd or 3rd pairing RH dman (currently 5th in ATOI on Anaheim's d corp) that could get lost in the Expansion Draft and turning an asset that could be lost for nothing into a top LW is a coup.

Ritchie helps balance the value to complete the deal and with Max Jones in the wings Ritchie is somewhat expendable.

Stoner is a salary dump to help balance the money
    ANA
    1. Soshnikov, Nikita
    2. van Riemsdyk, James
    Détails additionnels:
    -
JVR is a LW currently ranked 8th in points in the league out of 120+ LWers on the 30 teams. He is 6'3", still in his 20's, can skate and has some of the softest hands in close in the NHL. He is what the Ducks have needed for years.

Soshnikov is an Expansion Draft exempt addition

C'mon. You talk about the Leafs cap issues, but somehow don't appreciate CBJ or the Ducks cap issue. Bozak for Jenner, I don't see CBJ doing it. And Johnson, had high hopes for him after his SHL seasons, but has not shown he is a NHLer or even a good AHLer.
JVR has one year left on his contract. And look how well they young and cheap Ritchie has played for the Ducks this year. Gee, I don't think the Ducks do Ritchie for JVR straight up. And you want to include a young, steady, cheap NHLer Manson to the Leafs?
What's this that Ritchie is expendable cause Jones might be in the NHLer soon? Leafs should trade Matthews this season cause Brooks is graduating from junior this year following that logic.

I will agree with your title. Ducks fans are pumping up Manson way way too much. Seen multiple poster on other websites wanting Nylander in return and thinking that is actually fair.
He is a 2nd pairing stay at home defender (probably more of a #4 than a #3 Anchor) who is 25 so probably not going to change drastically. I get people loose their **** over physical RHD but it has gone crazy with Manson in particular

I agree and Jenner though he would be a nice pick up Leivo has been playing well and could be our 2/3 line LW of the future has decent size and scoring ability. Like the trade with the ducks and is very plausible. I would like to see a vet LHD brought in to stabilize our D and help our young d but could also see them giving Nielsen a chance looks good in the AHL and would fit in nicely on our 3rd pair as we develop him hopefully into a 2nd pair dman.

By your logic, we should trade Rakell too, since we have Sam steel in the Juniors tearing it up.

C'mon, use some common sense here. To trade JVR to Anaheim, you will be getting Vatanen exchange. The ducks won't take cap unless they are dumping cap. I would rather keep Stoner know he is off the books at the start of the 2018-19 season. Our top 4 looks really good with Lindholm, Manson, Fowler, Montour.

We're absolutely pumping up Manson. The same way Leafs fans are pumping up Leivo/JVR/Hyman/Kapanen. The same way Habs fans pump up Chucky. The same way the Avs are pumping up Duchene, etc. etc. etc.
Is Manson for Nylander a fair trade for the Leafs? Absolutely not. You'd be dumb to do it. But Leafs fans throwing their $hit at the wall and saying "Hey, this will get us a top 4 Dman, and JVR-lite, both of whom are on affordable contracts" is just as ridiculous.

Leafs fans are fired up to get rid of JVR and Bozak ASAP, and I'm really not sure why. You guys spend so much time posting about why it would work for your team, and then forget that these things have to work for both sides.
