The guy is a ppg player...this is a big underpay imo but when everyone knows you need cap space, that's what happens.

Agree, he'd also be a rental if traded for next summer. A lot of assets to give for an expiring vet when Devils probably won't contend anyway.

I would imagine that NJD do this as long as there is an extension in place.

When a star player gets traded at the deadline, you don't think the team gives up a 1st to get that player? Happens all the time! NJ NEEDS to actually start winning and Patches for 1 season helps that a lot. NJ should be expecting to be a playoff team. This return is not astronomical by any means
