Description
This Season has 2 objectives:
1. Solidify our D
2. Figure out what our prospects can provide

How we Solidify our D:

Penguins Trade:

Leafs get a good, young solid defenseman with good potential.
Pens get a cheaper defenseman, and a third line centerman to replace Bonino for less, and provide more offense. Leafs might need to add to this deal but Pens are in win now mode.

Sign Karl Alzner:

Karl Alzner is a top defensive blueliner who can play hard minutes and log lots of ice time.

There's no suitable options for right handed defenseman, so Rielly moves over to the right side.

Other moves:

Play the 3 pairings more evenly, no reason to overwork top pairing when we have 3 lines that can play well.

How we figure out what our prospects can provide:

We need to figure out what exactly can Leipsic, Leivo, and Soshnikov can be, so we need to devote significant important ice time to them. We do this by trading away roster players.

ANA Trade:

We take back a cap dump and give them a versitile winger who could score 15. We get back a second rounder.

NYI Trade:

Islanders are desperate for some help to keep the team competitive. Team gets rid of expensive backup, gets a top six scorer. TOR gets a NHL ready prospect on the left side. Maybe could throw in a bit more, not sure how much Islanders value Beauviller.

Give lots of opportunities to the young guns and test their NHL skills. Kapanen, Rychel, Johnson should all make appearances next year in the NHL.

No need to buy Halak, He's playing in the minors. If anything NYI should be calling Toronto saying please take him we'll give you a second. (Leafs have no reason to trade JVR)
I think Boyle is looking for closer to 2.5-3 mill to be a solid high end 3rd line center.
Penguins have no reason to trade away Olli Maatta the guy is a freaking beauty. Bozak and Marincin aren't enough for him.
No way any of the Leafs rookies would sign low money long term deals.
Alzner is not worth 5*6 in any universe. Long short term 4 million but he's just a top 4 d-man.

Anyways Nice wishful thinking but not a chance.

I wouldn't quite call Maatta a "freaking beauty" considering he get injured often and really hasn't played to his potential. I agree thats not a good trade though.

Halak is to offset value, I wasn't sure how valuable Beauviller is, and didn't want to piss any Islanders fans off, but the Leafs do have a reason, unless they sign him to an extension than he could walk, I would rather get young assets than nothing.
And if that's the case he can walk, we have plenty of options with Fehr and call ups.
Penguins DO have a reason, expansion draft, they'll have to choose 2/3 of Dumoulin, Schultz and Maatta and I think they let Maatta walk with how well the first two are doing.
I really hope they can, Brown and Hyman are Toronto Natives, and are very loyal to TO. Could see them signing a Calle Jarnkrok deal with a bit more money.
People go up and down on Alzner all the time, SportsNet said he could be bargaining 6x6 so I went off of that, but you need to remember those types still get good money, look at Jeff Petry he signed a what 6x5.5 deal?

PIT says no.
Good trade ANA-TOR.
TOR says no in trade with NYI (though pretty close, that doesn't get you JVR).
