Description
Fleury gets to reunite with Bylsma and be much closer to home in Buffalo. Lehner is given that much more time to develop. Pouliot and Girgensons go to rosters where they can actually play in 2017 and beyond. Penguins get a missing piece on defense and Sabers get another D-Man on an expiring deal to fill out their roster for this season. In exchange for giving up a starter with 2 years remaining the Pens get a pick and they retain salary to make it work for both teams. Seems like everyone wins.

Lehner hasn't been a problem for the Sabres this year, it's been the garbage defense. Sabres have no interest in MAF. That is too much to give up for a aging Dman with one month left and bad advanced stats, which is already a problem for the Sabres, and a roll of the dice on Pouliot. With Guhle coming up Sabres dont need a future LHD, they need a solid dman that helps them now, and Daley is not it. Sabres are not going to want to take many big contracts past next season too. If you want to use them as a dumping ground you're going to have to blow their doors off.

Buffalo (or almost any team) trades for Fleury then they lose their other goalie to expansion (Lehner, Hellebuyck). Why is Pens' goalie protection problem any concern to any other NHL team?
