Koskinen doesn’t fill a need for CBJ/ is a net negative.

And Strome is…fine. Wouldn’t say he moves the needle. If anything, picking him up feels like a favor to CHI?

Plus, if Jones is coming with an extension in place? You bet your ass the return is going to be *big* for CBJ.

All in all, CBJ probably decline.

How does picking Strome up feel like a favor to Chicago? As in Chicago can't move him for a late 1st?

Columbus isn't in a position of power, in fact they would be better off keeping him till the TDL to maximize their return if that is the strategy.

Not many teams can take on Jone's expected extension cap hit, also coming off a below average year, in flat cap world, and the fact that he is vocal that he wants to test free agency. For that reason, highly unlikely he signs an extension in Chicago...maybe Colorado or a team competing now. If for some reason he does agree to an extension, his value is only what 4 or 5 teams are willing to pay for a guy that wants out and isn't without risk due to his play and in a flat cap world. This is a pretty solid offer. Strome and Mitchell are both worth late 1sts, another 1st rounder, a 3rd and koskinen to balance the cap hit a bit. (3) 1st rounders value wise plus a 3rd is a pretty solid offer.

How does you "taking" Strome do us a favor if he's returning you a late 1st in this deal?

Badgering isn’t going to get CBJ to accept an OK offer 🤷‍♂️ I’d counter CBJ are in a great position here. Online Hockey Nerds like us love to badger the point, but Pierre Lebrun and others are reporting trade interest is borderline unprecented. Advanced stats hurt, but you still have a top-pairing, PP leading, offensively driven monster truck of a RH D-Man. His extension may be a pain to negotiate, but not much you can do there.

Which brings us to the supposition in all of this being that he is going to come with a 7x8 extension; Which, btw, if you are trading for him with an extension, you might as well sign and trade for the eighth year to flatten the cap hit.

Point still stands - Koskinen doesn’t do anything, and Strome is…fine. If you truly believe he can net you a late first, then go ahead and ship him off to a playoff team next year. For CBJ, he would just be one of a myriad of Middle-6 centers that we just don’t need. We need a 1C, or someone who can compete as such, and I have a feeling if CHI saw him as one, they wouldn’t be trading him away.

As for what I meant by “favor” - my understanding is CHI has $6M in cap space, eight FA’s, a slew of extensions due up next year, and a desire to be competitive now - why else would we even be hearing they are looking into Jones? I don’t get the impression CHI really sees Strome as part of their long-term plans, so passing him off now instead of having to deal with him next year, and risk another All-Star caliber 17 point season hurting his value, seems to be beneficial to you guys.

6 mil isn't accounting for seabrook and shaw going to LTIR, which will put us at around 17 mil. Doesn't account for very likley kieth and dehaan trades which will leave us with even more cap. We have plenty of money. CBJ does us no favor by taking cap
