Description

The Anaheim trade is from the recent Athletic article by Ian Mendes. He suggested ANA retains 25-50% so I split the difference (roughly).
Ottawa also qualifies Abramov in case he becomes a beast.
JBD starts in Belleville and maybe comes up when we move Manson at the deadline.
This team starts much better than last year but still misses the playoffs, which is FINE, and next offseason the only player that requires a significant contract is Norris. The cupboards in Belleville are FAR from bare, so Ottawa will be able to move picks and prospects in '22 or '23 when they're truly ready to make some noise.

I'm open to Henrique with retention, but based on that article, it seems like Anaheim is expecting a significant return for Manson, which seems like a mistake for a rental D for Ottawa.

Replace Manson with Shattenkirk and I would probably do it.

I'd take Shatty in a deal around a swap with Zaitsev (I think you were the one who suggested something to that effect) but if Zaitsev isn't going the other way, I'd prefer neither Shattenkirk nor Manson. Maybe the drop the Dman coming back and swap Kleven and a 2nd for Aspirot and a 3rd? I think that's still solid value for Anaheim.

Does Manson waive for Ottawa though?

I don't see it, even with a promise to be traded to a contender at the deadline I can't see him leaving California for Ottawa, no offense to the Sens.

I think if you took out Kleven and replaced him with someone like Aspirot, Guenette, Lodin, or Davidsson I’d do this. Manson will be a good stopgap for JBD and give Chabot a little help until the TDL, where we can recoup some assets. Henrique is a solid middle six C that can hold down that role until whoever we draft (McTavish or Lucius) develops and it helps that he has some chemistry with C. Brown. These are the kind of guys Ottawa should be targeting to be reasonably competitive next year without blocking up the pipeline of guys we’ve got on the way like a UFA with term would.
