The Canes paying $9M for Hamilton is not realistic, at all. Also, they’re not giving up a 1st to be rid of Gardiner. His buyout really isn’t that much to bear, or he likely could be traded for another team’s underperforming asset.

how is 9 million unrealistic for Hamilton? He's a top 5 d-man and hes going to want top 5 d-man money

Hamilton is going to be very hard to value correctly. I would not say he is a top 5 d-man, I would say he is a part of a top d-pair. The two games without Jaccob Slavin in the playoffs are a small sample size, but they highlight his defensive ineptitude this year. He had a part in 5 goals against in this series alone(by my personal count).

I really don't want the Canes to pay him more than John Carlson money, because I think they are simular in what they provide to a team. So, 10.06 per cent (or $8,198,900) of the salary cap would be the target salary in my opinion.

IMO he's a top 5 d-man and even if you you don't think that he's still going to get top 5 d-man money. I will be shocked if he doesn't at least get Pietrangelo money

Oh, I think he will get top 5 d-man money, but I don't think it will be from the Canes. Devils, Jets, and Flyers fans seem more apt to pay 9,000,000+, so I think they could be teams that give him that money. I just don't see it for the Canes. We will need to pay Necas, Svechnikov, and Trocheck during his deal and they will all get substantial pay raises
