Description
Philadelphia trade: Flyers have only RFAs Carter Hart and Felix Sandstrom on the roster for 2021-2022. After that, the only goalie they have under contract is Kirill Ustimenko, who spent most of the 2019-2020 season in the ECHL and then all of this year on the SOIR list. Koskinen would be a good backup for Hart at no increase in cap hit over Gostisbehere, who would be a cheaper version of Tyson Barrie (who might not want to re-up with Edmonton). The third factors in (at least partially) the difference between an every-game skater and a backup goalie. (Don't be surprised to see Philadelphia select Jesper Wallstedt with the 13th selection if he's still there.)

Arizona trade: The Coyotes have a third space for a defenseman open on their protection list and no one under contract worth protecting at RD. Trading Bear (whom I've seen heavily criticized by a significant segment of Oilers faithfuls) allows Edmonton to protect Jones in addition to Nurse and Gostisbehere and gets them a middle-6 power forward with some grit, something that they are lacking at LW.

Seattle trade: I can't believe that Florida will protect Gudas over any of Ekblad, Weegar, Yandle (NMC), or even Nutivaara or Forsling. He adds some more much-needed grit to the Oiler lineup at a modest cost.

Tampa trade: The Lightning, as we all know, are under pressure to cut cap. They could use a fourth goalie in the system behind Vassilevskiy, and Stalock is more experienced than the three they have there now. I think Palat would love to play with McDavid or Draisaitl (or RW with both) and would waive his NTC if Edmonton is on it.

Coleman and Ullmark signings: self-explanatory to anybody who roots for Oiler success. Don't hassle me about price; they're worth every penny and more to Edmonton.

Larsson and Smith signings: both played well for Edmonton this year and deserve new contracts.

First-round draft pick: a Swedish left-handed forward.

Stay well, everyone!

I don’t like the two year term with ghost I can’t get behind that while there is some form of hope about klef attempting a return. I get the price is fair from oilers perspective but personally don’t like it. If gudas was a good fit for a top pairing then Seattle in this scenerio would ask for a lot more. Not to sound totally negative on all of this there is a few things I do like

I would be extremely surprised if the Flyers take a goalie at 13. Not only do we have Hart who we fully expect to bounce back, but we will certainly be signing Felix Sandstrom who has looked pretty good the last couple years. Not to mention a highly talented goalie in Samuel Ersson who has had back to back tremendous seasons in the SHL, and a dark horse, Ivan Fedotov playing in the KHL. A tier below them is Matej Tomek, who has made leaps and bounds in the last several years since college.

I'm not saying that we are not looking for a backup OR that we are not gonna trade Ghost, but for a so so backup, I think there are better options on the market, as well Ghost's value going up a bit after his last half of the season. In a full season he would've had almost 20 goals, which is pretty impressive. His underlying stats were great as well.

    Thanks for the input!

I think that the major benefit of that transaction is intangible -- namely, getting rid of Koskinen.

Other than Hall, Coleman and Palat, any ideas for LW?

Thanks for the input! I always like to hear from fans of teams I can't follow that well -- even the ones I used to hate.

Since I like your prospect pool and think Wallstedt is a cut above all the guys you've mentioned, some of whom are unsigned and/or foreign-based (and thus a teeny bit less likely to sign), I still think you may look at Wallstedt at 13. We'll see!
