Man you beat me to it. I had the same idea. I'd be down, but I don't think the management would do it. They like Byron, he's an alternate captain and a good locker room guy.

Byron means a lot to the team and he is a great bottom line player. Sure, he makes way too much for 4th line duties, but it is what it is. I think he was waived more for cap flexibility whereas FLA would love to actually get rid of Connolly.
Connolly is someone you want in your top 9. Unfortunately, in MTL, their right side is already super packed with Gallagher, Toffoli, Anderson and Armia. Not to mention, Caufield will take on a role there once he comes over. Dont really see Connolly as a fit, although I like your thinking with similar cap + term swapping teams.

Honestly, if Connelly clears, my bet is Bergevin offers this.

He only brings players that have won a cup these days (Perry Frolik Allen Edmundson). Connelly did with WSH 17-18.

I think Bergevin dislike Armia for being too soft. He won't resign him and Connelly would get his role.

He's also on a hot seat : if we miss the playoffs he might be gone. We're on a bad streak and he would feel he's forced to make a move. That would mean trying actively to shake his team, to try something. We would say at least he has tried something if we miss the playoffs.
