You could argue, at best, he is overpaid by about 2 million. A forward of his calibre should be getting $9M to $9.5M.

Rantanen got 9.25 for 6 years, and when you consider Mitch has outpaced him 2 years in a row (despite being a year younger and not getting to play with the best player in the world), plus considering the tax situation, Marner could be getting anywhere from 9.4-9.6. So that's only a million dollars overpay.

When you look at guys like Kreijci getting 7.2M, Eriksson getting 6M, Erik Johnson getting 6M Ekman Larsson 8M, Keller at 7M, etc. - Marner is literally not even that much of an over pay. Plus, each new year of his contract he improves
