Description
Keeping Pietreangelo,
This is a fresh look after the Allen trade also knowing Tarasenko's health. Also obviously the Blues will get Tarasenko hopefully back as some sort of somewhat impactful player the end of next year but that is no guarantee and they won fine without him so they won't dump like a first on it but they will be looking for a young, cheap offensive talent. I think Dube fits well there in a team that would be interested in one of Gunnarsson or Bortuzzo and the Blues would be happy to give up a 3rd there. I'm sure Calgary is somewhat high on him but I think for a D upgrade and ta 3rd they let that little window in 2-3 years take a dip for improvement now and possibly in 3-5 years

The Tarasenko trade to Ottawa for nothing and signing of a made up tarasenko for 1 year at half the cost is a stand in for LTIR and you should mentally apply his 7.5M in future years and not think I'm handing Tarasenko to Ottawa and making a guy up (I know but how many people don't read these descriptions)
Also I know the Blues don't get a 4th scratch, that's again to facilitate the second half of the season Tarasenko Salary after LTIR

Détails additionnels:
a buyout leaves too much money to do this, but I think Tarasenko is on LTIR for about half the season so a created Tarasenko signed for 1 year 3.75M is a stand in for the LTIR and this trade is a dump of that

Calgary is not trading Dube at all, and has no interest in trading for what would be their 6LD

I did a "Tarasenko to LTIR" interactive GM team with a stupid long explanation. I don't think anything more complicated needs to happen than Tarasenko just going on LTIR. If I'm correct in my understanding, the Blues could exceed the cap by that number.

There's no question Tank will start next season (whenever that is) on LTIR. The $7.5 million AAV question is when he'll be ready to get back on the ice. In bluntly short terms I advocated for assuming he's LTIR the whole year and if he's not then it's a pleasant surprise and you figure the cap implications then. But you approach the offseason with the belief you will have his full cap hit as cap relief. Considering this is his 3rd surgery on that shoulder in a 18 month timeframe I don't think that stance is as aggressive as some people who disagree with me would claim.

i mean theyll actually have to move someone if he does comes off it later during the season, but either way him going on LTIR buys them so much time and gives them way more flexibility

With Petro at $9, Dunn at $3.5, and having moved ONLY Jake Allen, with a healthy scratch forward and D-man the Blues would have to clear a hair over $5 million AAV to re-add Tank to the lineup.

No question they'd have to move someone(s). Not ideal, not great. Not impossible. But like I say, that may legitimately never happen and it gives the Blues immediate flexibility and like you say: time. Now the obvious downside would be if Tank is ready and wants to come back you're reliant on a team making a trade with you knowing you HAVE to clear space, so the price would be high.
