Quoting: Windjammer
Domi would be an alright option if nothing better presents itself. He's very poor defensively and we need a good defensive 2C to play with our wingers. I also disagree about Domi equaling the 10th pick. A second rounder or comparable pick maybe, but a high first rounder. No chance.
10th overall picks from 2007 to 2016:
- Ellerby (Bust)
- Hodgson (Bad)
- Paajarvi (Bad)
- McCilrath (Bust)
- Brodin (Good Pick)
- Koekkoek (Bust)
- Ritchie
- Nichushkin
- Rantanen (Star)
- Jost
A list of 10 10th overall picks and Domi arguably slots in with Brodin as a "Good Pick". In other words trading Domi for 10th round pick is like trading Domi for:
- 10% chance of a star player
- 10% chance of a good player (which Domi already is)
- 30% chance of a serviceable player
- 20% chance of a bad player
- 30% chance of a straight up bust (NOTHING!)
People over value draft picks. "A boats a boat, but the mystery box could be anything! It could even be a boat!".
My offer would be Domi for Lowry and the 10th overall pick. Or Lowry with Vesalainen and another pick (2021 ranged 16th to 47th).
I'm from Manitoba, but a habs fan. I follow the Jets somewhat and while I agree with you that Domi may not be the best option, he is a very good fit for WPG (good big scoring wingers). Also, there are not going to be any better options, there are no free agent C's available this year. No one is going to trade a bonafide top 6 C for what WPG has to offer.
