Nice job thinking outside of the box. Florida has been a reliable trade partner over the years so it is possible the two teams could continue to do business together. Crouse is one of their top prospects and Trocheck is on verge of becoming a stud if he isn't already. They do have some young guys in their system that will be coming off ELCs that might turn them from Hossa's final four year cap hit of $5.3M. Saying that, the Panthers have enjoyed real good productivity from a guy in his 40's for a couple of seasons and just re-signed Jagr again. Maybe for '17-18 they are willing to go with Hoss as their elder statesman. Going to Florida without state sales taxes may make a difference in Hossa's cut in salary as well. It is longshot but certainly worth exploring by Bowman. Florida may want a Schmaltz instead of Baun, especially if they could convince Hossa to stay active and not retire.

I understand the Hawk side of the deal, they pick three players for 6m. The Panthers pick up about 12m for NHL. three players. Don't know if the Panthers can handle that money (just like the Hawks can't)

This obviously doesn't make sense anymore because Crouse was traded to the Yotes today, but I wanted to comment because Hossa isn't likely to ever be traded because of the recapture penalties should he retire - they would be huge for the Hawks. The Hawks will likely want to keep Hossa close so they can convince him to go the LTIR route rather than retirement since he's making pretty much nothing to a hockey player after this year. The risk is too high for the Hawks to trade Hossa, unlike the Preds with trading Weber because they're rarely near the cap ceiling and Weber is younger.
