Description
OK, I still think that the Blues use Husso as the backup goalie next year. This is one scenario that I find realistic where that changes and in that case Stalock stays there for depth and if he crashes Chad Johnson style or Husso proves very ready he gets dealt

Also lots of people have pointed out that Steen can be bought out and even resign with the Blues for the min. i wondered if the Blues do that much for just over 1M in savings but honestly I hadn't really floated that too much but it could happen and Bozak could then be the guy dealt which doesn't cost a pick and that closes the 700k gap between the two. I do have another scenario with a 2 year plan that trades Allen and Steen together with a first to DEtroit which I also see as realistic but this is a more complex but I think realistic way to go

Also of Gunnarsson going to Minny I think fits with their depth but that does not mean I think they let Soucy walk or that Gunnarsson can't just go to NJD or Toronto or somewhere else for a pick, I bet the Wild keep Soucy, but this gives them depth for negotiating leverage, improves their D either way and if Soucy still returns there as I think he will then Pateryn or Hunt can be the 7D and the other can be dealt (likely Hunt for a higher return). Allen is a fit with Minnesota being so good at everything but goaltending and Allen offering essentially a one year tryout that should fix that problem then they can extend him if he's a fit or are free to handle goaltending from scratch however they want if he bombs (and of course they do this thinking he will work out)

This will be my second 2 year plan after https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/343240?post_id=1573121

Steen cannot resign with the Blues if he is brought out, that is cap circumvention and was clarified following the Orpik deal.

From what I understand, a team can re-sign a bought-out player unless it was a CBO, which explains why the Flames were able to re-sign Michael Stone

I can't find it so you may be right. I had a strong memory of what happened with Orpik being deemed illegal in future, though you are right in that it seems to have happened with Stone. I may well be mistaken.

The flames bought him out themselves AND took the cap hit of both the buyout and his new contract

Probably because Washington didn't have to deal with the buy-out themselves
