Very realistic

I can't see any of these teams accepting these trades. If the NHL was ending in 4 years and you have to win now then maybe it makes sense for Colorado but that is not the case and that is far too much future to give up for a 32 and a 34 year old.

I say very unrealistic and just plain dumb. I can understand the Crosby deal as his contract won’t be finished for another 6 years. Ovechkin will be an UFA after next season.
Still in spite of these players accolades, they are in their 30’s, and the wear and tear of 15 seasons will evidently decrease productivity.

Colorado would be selling their future for perhaps one season where Crosby and Ovechkin play together. There will be people out who wet themselves hoping this came true justifying that one season could make up for the complete imbalance which are these two trades.

We can never know if Crosby & Ovechkin on a line would click. In the 1990’s, Vancouver acquired Alexander Mogilny to play with Pavel Bure. On paper, it looked like total domination. Two 60 scorers playing together on a line. It turn out to be a disaster.

In 2003-2004, the Avalanche signed Paul Kariya & Teemu Selanne as free agents to a one year deal joining Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg & Milan Hejduk to form an insurmountable offensive threat almost guaranteeing an appearance in the finals. As it turned out, the free agents posted unflattering stats. Kariya got injured, but Selanne missed a handful of games only scored 16 times.

The intangible, chemistry, is often the invisible hand in determining whether a line will effective.
