Kings only do that trade if the 1st round pick is in 2020. Don't think you'll get back a 5th round pick either. You might get a struggling prospect like Rymsha, Eyssimont, or Reddekopp.

You'd have to add more for Klefbom, like Rust and something else, maybe if Galchenyuk came with some kind of contract extension that'd help but idk if that's possible.

Come on man, the JJ contract isn't THAT bad, Marleau (over 6 mil of completely dead cap in one year) took a first to move, and most people considered that an overpayment, JJ makes 13 mil, if you play him for 1 year, he's worth about 1.5 I'd say, then bury him for the next leaving a little under 4 mil in completely dead cap over two years, then you buy him out, it's just over a mil for 4 years, that's 8 mil in dead cap over 6 years, and as buyouts show, it's more favorable to spread out the cap over a longer term so I'd say 8 mil over 6 years is roughly equal to 6 mil for a year, assuming there's no salary coming back (which is also somewhat unlikely) so don't make it sound like there's no chance LAK accepts a free first round pick that very well could be a lottery pick

Yes, it's that bad. Marleau's contract was for only one year, the actual cash owed was negligible, Carolina didn't need the cap space, and they still got a 1st round pick for taking it on. They bought it out and went on their way, and the cap hit will be completely off the books next season.

Johnson's contract is for four (!!!) more seasons, meaning if they play him for a year and buy him out next summer, his contract will be on the books until 2026. The Kings cap situation might not be an issue now, but who knows what it will look like in 6 more years. If the Pens want the Kings (or any other team for that matter) to take on that awful contract, they're going to have to part with a 1st round pick at minimum.

I'm not saying that the Kings won't trade for JJ, but they're going to want an unmitigated 1st round pick from the 2020 draft in return. You're welcome to add top 10 protection on it if you want, just like the Leafs did in the Marleau trade.

Marleau had a NMC that limited where they could send him, he had total control and everything about that situation is completely and totally different than JJ.
It's not even worth arguing with these people who magically think they penguins are giving up a 1st to move him. They are the same ones who think Pernell gets a huge return and pool party is somehow worth a legit middle 6 winger, along with a slew of other crazy ass things.
