Idk, they'd have a lot of guys coming off the books in 2020 so they could probably make it work.

Gagner, Kassian, and Smith are the only sizeable contracts that come off the books, but you’d also have to resign Nurse who may ask upwards of 7 mil for long term after seeing what Trouba got

In this scenario Gardiner would be expiring as well.. Lol.. Brodziak, Jurco, Nygard and Archibald are about another $3.5M and maybe they don't resign Benning and replace him with Bouchard on his ELC.

Would really depend on what Debrincat and Strome are looking at for dollars I guess.

I count about $18 million rolling off in UFA's in 2020 (Granlund, Manning, Gagner, Kassian, Archibald, Brodziak, Gardner, and Smith). They may bring some back but there's a lot of money tied up in deals for bottom 6 players that expire next season.

This team as iced in this scenario also has a little over $4 million in cap space. Take that with a modest increase in cap will leave the Oilers with ~23 million in space to sign Debrincat, Strome, Nurse, and Benning

Make some other moves to either keep benning or ship him out.
