Description
The Leafs want to sign Marner to 6-8 years and Marner wants 5 like Matthews. So do they settle on 2 years and then sign the big contract. It is a risk for the Leafs because if he leads the team in points those two years he makes more money the Matthews and Tavares. Likely makes more then McDavid just because the cap will be going way up with new TV deal and Seattle entering the league (not because he is better then any of these 3 players).

I'm not sure the ask is for Barrie, but you have to believe that Kadri is involved, so Leafs get a centre back.

Would love to add a better backup, but if you want to keep the forward group together and get some D, you have to hope Hutch has a good year.

Marner has to be settle soon so the Leafs can start making some moves or else they are going to miss out on everything.

Yeah enough is enough. Seems to me like Mitch should find a new agent. Ferris is dragging his name through the dirt with all his bs antics. Matthews fired his agent and signed with the Leafs almost immediately after. Marner should do the same, sign with Bobby Orr like Matthews did. Having the same agent has worked great for Kane and Toews.

one and only flaw with those trades...you wont be able to resign Barrie next year.

The more i do those simulations after Marner signed, the more i come to a single conclusion. The D Top pair duo that TML needs to acquire must be inside 9M span with 3-4y contract still remained.

Personally I think if you are going to move Kadri you do it right now and sign Spezza. Would be a great 3C for the leafs for many reasons. Face offs, pkaymaking (would work great with kappy) of course his price too.

If spezza could be signed around 1m this would allow the leafs to spend the savings and value of Kadri on an rhd.

Spezza has publically states he doesn’t care about the money. It is about the team and winning. That is what he is looking for in ufa.

If you’re gonna ship Kadri why not bring in another son of Toronto who is interested in winning and willing to take less. Maybe yet another nod to marner about what it means to be leaf much like Tavares did by turning down more money to be here.
