Description
These moves allow the Habs to use their available cap now and still be in a decent position to sign their roster players in 2020 (Domi and Mete) and 2021 (almost everyone else).

Primeau, Poehling, Suzuki, Brook, Fleury and Olofsson anchor the Laval team for a year of development.

EDMONTON -- Gets major cap relief ($6M) and two solid young Dmen. Alzner can be used, buried or bought out. Habs get short-term upgrade at LD and swap up to a good first-round pick in return for a second. Habs buy out Lucic immediately.

TB -- Lightning get huge cap relief ($4M) for a 20-pick move up in the draft. Callahan waives NMC to be bought out and can return to TB.

NJ -- Devils get a veteran leader with top-gear speed and a second rounder to compensate for the age difference; Habs get a big, young C/LW with solid 200-foot game.

LA -- Clears $3M in cap now on a player they would potentially lose next year as a UFA and receive Armia, a very useful RW, and Hudon, whose offensive game might be more valued by Luc Robitaille than by Marc Bergevin. Also assumes Nate Thompson would want to go back to LA and that they'd want him (otherwise, replace with a 4th pick); Habs get another solid scrapper on the RW in Toffoli, who should be playing hard for a contract.

Nope, the Lucic's buyout is way too costly. 8 years to pay this lazy guy, I don't want that.

The Oilers and Tampa might consider this, the Devils probably not but maybe, can't see the Kings making that trade.

I don't love it either, but getting Sekera would be an upgrade and if the cap grows by $3M a year, the expensive part of Lucic's contract is gone in 4 years (2019 -- $3,625,000 2020 -- $5,625,000 2021 --$4,125,000 2022 --$5,625,000). After that, it's $625,000 a year for 4 years, which is a rounding error). The Habs get a solid bridge Dman until Romanov can develop (assuming he does) and get another high-level prospect from having the #8 pick in the 2019 draft. And for Edmonton, the nightmare is over and the Oilers can begin wooing UFAs to come play with McDavid.

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. The Devils deal is a hockey move through and through. NJ has potential up to its ears, but very little leadership and might well be losing Taylor Hall and Zajac over the coming year or two. Byron wears the A in Montreal for good reason. As for the LA deal, reading the "boards" here, it seemed the Kings were pretty keen to open up some cap to begin chasing UFAs? Anyway, it was my last idea for the morning. I guess the same could be accomplished by signing a UFA like Connelly or Johansson, though I really like Toffoli's game.

Get what you're saying and that was my thought with NJ as well, just not sure if they'd be ready to move on from Zacha already and if they did would probably be in a bigger deal, no offense to Byron.
I figure LA either holds onto Toffoli or swaps him at the deadline for a bigger futures piece. Hudon and Thompson don't have a ton of value imo and I'm a huge Armia fan but idk, he wouldn't fit where LA is at imo. If LA goes the UFA route to rebuild they are screwing themselves but with as much money as they have tied up in Doughty and Kopitar what else do you do I guess.
