Description
Leafs need to cut about 7m assuming Marleau plays his last season. Dallas is an option, but any team that can offer the Leaf more with no cap being returned would be welcomed by the Leafs.

I get the death sentence on this site if I trade him for Pesce (a player Toronto actually needs), good luck on this one Pal.

Gee Nick, there will be a double hanging. I am one (along with you) that thinks Pesce for Nylander makes sense for both teams (in the summer). Leafs would be half way to cutting their need cap excess.
I'm one to thinks it might be better to trade just one player Nylander to achieve your cap goals. Others suggest multiple players to be traded to get to that 7m cap cut. Just my thought you weaken your team by trading multiple regulars and then you have to find multiple (not as good replacements) replacements.
I know trade value and even playing value is subjective but it seems for some reason, Nylander is untradeable by so many Leaf fans. The nature of his contract makes him an attractive trade piece, and finally he looks to be playing well again.
Thanks for good wishes on my what might be an unpopular trade. Fortunately there is not the death penalty in Canada.

It's not that he is untradeable, the point most of us make (me in particular) is that the value you back in trades for him is almost always terrible. For example here in this post. The best player by far in the trade is Nylander, it's not even close so the Leafs are giving away a great player for cap space. How does that make sense? Especially when you can create space by moving others like Zaitsev (4.5) million or Brown (2+)? Depth players can be moved and replaced a lot easier than top line forwards.

As for Nylander for Pesce, Leafs fans don't like it because its a terrible one sided trade, take need out of the equation and just look at player for played and you have a Hall for Larsson trade on your hands. (Just stop with the Hall is way better stuff, it doesn't matter, the point is a high value forward for a defensive Defenceman is never a good trade)

Or we look to move Kadri and Brown and achieve the same thing. Then move Patty back in the middle for his last year.

My issue with nylander for pesce is that you would still need to move zaitsev. So know you move zaitsev for no return and you try to defend the premise that pesce is better than zaitsev by exactly one nylander (new scale I invented for gauging player value lol)

Do you find that pesce is better than zaitsev by one full nylander?

Maybe if it were pesce/tvr for zaitsev/nylander the deal would make more sense. Still not perfect on value but it gets the leafs where they need to be at cap and on D.
